One can portage a canoe around a river obstruction by carrying it or dragging it through the woods or very shallow water. As defined, the act of carrying. And I’d have to believe there is another definition to be had from said word . . . if you’ve had too much port, then portage would be defined as “the act of carrying ON”. i believe the second is more apposite for men of a certain age. . . . .
