I’m currently away from base whilst visiting family and friends so am a little behind in my challenges and posts. Coupled by the fact that I feel lost at Internet cafes etc. – anywhere, where there are only PC’s, and no Mac’s! An Apple a day!!
But one of the things I quite enjoy is travelling alone: I hasten to add that I love to travel with my partner, but travelling alone has different rewards, including people watching. As we, of course, realise travelling in the main does not broaden the mind but simply narrows the bank account. Not so much the travel itself, as the exhorbitant prices charged at airports and particularly on planes for generally inedible ‘food’ and ‘refreshments’ – a word so abused as to now have simply the role of a cynical description. However as there is plenty to ridicule on the airlines, it gives plenty of scope for writing. For example, the previous post on coffee, I think works quite well. BUT if the coffee had been good there would be less scope for cynicism and biting sarcasm!! There are of course interesting and positive things that can be observed : on return to base with scanner to hand I shall recount my finest hour when I triumphed in the queue stakes at Fiumicino, and how a British Rail official made me smile! Honestly! You see, there is good in the world.
So maybe not an perfect solitary day: but a solitary day made the best of….. tickets please!
