Colemanballs . .

 

Here are a couple of great ‘gaffes’ – that’s posh for idiotic mistakes, I believe– these are often  referred to as Colemanballs – a phrase coined by Private Eye magazine – due the frequency which sports commentator David Coleman did this sort of thing!!

e.g. “do my eyes deceive me, or is Senna’s Lotus sounding rough?”,

“with half of the race gone, there is half of the race still to go.”

“That’s the fastest time ever run – but it’s not as fast as the world record.”

“Don’t tell those coming in the final result of that fantastic match, but let’s just have another look at Italy’s winning goal.”

“He is accelerating all the time. The last lap was run in 64 seconds and the one before that in 62.”
